Renewable Thermal Technologies
Utilizing heat pumps to generate Alternative Energy Certificates (AECs)
Programs like Massachusetts’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (APS) offer AECs to heating and cooling companies that install renewable thermal energy systems, including air- and ground-source heat pumps. Diversified Energy Specialists (DES) has extensive experience in this space. We understand the processes and financials of installing air- and ground-source heat pumps, as well as other alternative heat sources, like biomass pellets and solar thermal technologies.
Our extensive industry experience enables DES to offer precise analysis for companies in the thermal energy sector, so you know in advance what kind of returns you can expect in the marketplace.

How do renewable thermal technologies work?
Heat pump technology uses a process of compression and evaporation to transfer energy from the outside environment into a building in the form of heat energy.
The two most common forms of heat pump technology are:
Air-Source Heat Pumps, which pull ambient outdoor energy into a home or business. Air-source heat pumps have been used for years in various parts of the United States, but increases in their efficiency and effectiveness have led to an expansion of usage across the country.
Despite the extremely high up-front cost to the homeowner, state and federal policy has pushed for the adoption of this technology.
Ground-Source Heat Pumps, which pull underground or water energy into a home or business. This option, also known as geothermal technology, is even pricier to install but much more effective than air-source heat pumps.
DES assists installers, retailers, buildings and homeowners who have installed this technology to monetize their AECs in the Massachusetts APS program.
DES monetizes the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions achieved through the use of renewable thermal energy technologies
Across the country, government agencies are creating financial incentives for installers, retailers, buildings and homeowners who have embraced renewable thermal technologies. Portfolio standards and emissions standards in states across the Northeast are just two examples.
If you install renewable thermal energy systems in Massachusetts homes or buildings and sell AECs through the APS program, you are likely leaving money on the table.
No aggregator generates more value for APS credits than DES. We know the renewable energy markets, and our services are risk-free. We analyze your position in the market and provide you with a clear picture of the returns you can expect.
